De Morgen_2012= Europese kunstmanifestatie Manifesta naar Limburg

08/2009 raakte bekend dat Limburg in een tweestrijd verwikkeld was met een Engelse regio voor de organisatie van Manifesta 9. De kogel is nu door de kerk: de biënnale komt in 2012 naar Limburg.
Manifesta vindt sinds 1996 elke twee jaar op een andere Europese locatie plaats. Na de eerste editie in Rotterdam passeerden onder meer Luxemburg (1998), Frankfurt (2002) en San Sebastian (2004) de revue. Dit najaar vindt de biënnale plaats in het Spaanse Murcia.
Vandaag geeft de Nederlandse Manifesta-directeur Hedwig Fijen meer details prijs op een persconferentie. Wellicht wordt ook Nederlands-Limburg bij de organisatie betrokken. De provincie Limburg investeert minstens 3,5 miljoen euro in Manifesta. (belga/vsv)

What Is Manifesta?
Manifesta, The European Biennial of Contemporary Art, was born as a nomadic contemporary art event, and has developed into a flexible and mobile structure, capable of continuously changing and reinventing itself.  It sees itself as an open-ended, dialogical process, initiating international collaborative projects and of adding a dimension of its own to a wide range of independently organised initiatives. From 1996 onwards, the Manifesta Biennial has taken place at regular two-year intervals, as follows;
